If you are traveling “over the river and through the woods” this holiday season, you are sure to need some form of entertainment for the long car ride. Sure, you could turn on some jams or a movie in your car’s entertainment center, but what if you played road trip games? If you really want to engage your family and/or friends, consider playing some of these road trip games.
- The Movie Game - Connect actors through movies in which they have starred. The game starts with one person naming an actor/actress. The next person has to say a movie that they were in, then the following person has to state another actor/actress from that movie. If someone is incorrect, they have to sit out the next round. Example: Elijah Wood - Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - Sean Astin – Rudy
- The Singing Game - Connect songs through their lyrics in this fun sing-a-long. One person starts singing a song using a lyric from a song, the next person has to connect it with another song. It continues on until somebody messes up the lyrics or is stumped.
- Fortunately/Unfortunately - Making a fortunate situation out of an unfortunate situation. One person starts by saying "Fortunately" and mentioning something fortunate. The next person has to follow by saying something unfortunate about the previous situation. Move clockwise around the car switching between fortunate and unfortunate situations. If somebody stumbles, they get a strike. Three strikes and you're out! Last man standing wins!
- 21 Questions – Guess what a person is thinking of in 21 questions. Someone thinks of something then the other passengers begin by asking questions. You can't repeat a question that has been asked and you only have 21 questions to ask. Whoever guesses it right gets to start the next round. If no one answers correctly, the “idea guy” is the winner.
- The Waving Game – Spread some joy by waving at your fellow travelers! One person starts and waves to every car or person they pass. If a wave is received in return it is counted and that person keeps going. When there is no return wave it is another person's turn.
So, as you’re traveling this holiday season, try one or more of these games to make the time in your car the most enjoyable yet. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
